CMS approves National Dialysis Accreditation Commission for ESRD clinic surveys

The National Dialysis Accreditation Commission LLC has received approval of deemed status from CMS, giving dialysis providers another option to complete the requirements of Medicare surveys to open and operate dialysis clinics.

According to a press release, the National Dialysis Accreditation Commission (NDAC) is the first independent company to be approved by CMS to conduct dialysis facility surveys. Dialysis providers successfully completing NDAC’s accreditation process may now be awarded Medicare certification from CMS based on their accreditation with recommendation for deemed status by NDAC. The Glen Ellyn, Illinois-based company will offer accreditation services in all 50 states and U.S. territories.

“We are very excited to offer an alternative path to Medicare certification,” chief compliance offer Glenda Payne, RN, MSN, CNN, said in the release. “We have hired a cadre of experienced dialysis nurses to conduct our surveys, providing a level of expertise and focus on high-risk practices. Our focus on strictly dialysis facilities will allow dramatic reduction in waiting times for initial surveys and predictable survey intervals for resurveys.”

The company’s focus will be on incorporating staff with many years of dialysis experience “into all aspects of our survey process,” chief operating officer Jennifer Vavrinchik, said in the release. “Our accreditation standards largely mirror CMS’ Condition for Coverage for ESRD, so providers can be assured a familiar compliance experience when working with NDAC.”

Company CEO Curt Anliker said NDAC’s service offering will be useful for large dialysis organizations and regional dialysis providers, as well as multi-site and single, independent dialysis providers.
