Ahmed Malik, MD, the chair of medicine at the Aurora St Luke’s Medical Center in Wisconsin, will receive the Medical Advisory Board Distinguished Service Award at the 2019 Spring Clinical Meetings in Boston.
“We are so honored to recognize Dr. Malik’s work within his community to raise awareness of chronic kidney disease,” Holly Kramer, president of the National Kidney Foundation, said in a press release. “His dedication to the cause is evident not just by his career, but also by his work in charity, leadership and success in fundraising.”
According to the release, the Medical Advisory Board Distinguished Service Award is presented to individuals for their educational activities and community service in promoting the mission of NKF on a local level.
Malik has been practicing nephrology in the Milwaukee area since 2005. Alongside his clinical work, Malik is involved in research and teaching and has received a Best Teacher Award by the Aurora Internal Medicine Residency Program several times, according to the release. In 2015, he raised more than $100,000 in charitable donations for the Indigent Patient Endowment Fund for the King Edward Medical College Alumni Association when he served as president.
“I have been humbled by this award,” Malik said in the release. “On behalf of my patients, practice and NKF Wisconsin, I thank NKF for the recognition of our efforts, and reiterate our determination to continue our focus on early detection, education and prevention of kidney disease in our community.”
Awards will be presented at the 2019 Spring Clinical Meetings, which take place May 8-12.
