Fresenius Kidney Care announces industry-leading patient safety results

Nearly 100% of Fresenius Kidney Care facilities achieved 5-Diamond Patient Safety Status in 2018, causing the dialysis network of Fresenius Medical Care North America to continue leading the industry, according to a company press release.
Administered by two of the nine ESRD networks in the United States and endorsed by renal organizations such as the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association and the Renal Physicians Association, the 5-Diamond Patient Safety Program seeks to improve the patient experience by promoting a culture of safety, according to the release. This is measured through 18 patient safety education modules, of which each dialysis facility must complete five the first year of participating in the program to be recognized.
Fresenius Medical Care maintained its 5-diamond status at 99.6% of its in-center and home hemodialysis programs, with the status achieved at 100% of enrolled acute care dialysis centers. According to the release, 2018 marks the third year that the company has achieved industry-leading results.
“Our top priority for every patient in our care is their safety,” Mike Asselta, president of Fresenius Kidney Care, said in the release. “We are proud to lead the industry in promoting a culture of safety to ensure that our patients are able to lead fuller, more active and vibrant lives.”
Fresenius Kidney Care added more than 100 new acute, home and in-center clinics into the program last year and will continue to participate in the 5-Diamond Safety Program.
