The Kidney Innovation Accelerator, known as KidneyX, has issued new submission instructions for its Redesign Dialysis Prize Competition.
According to an email sent out by KidneyX, the government shutdown has prevented KidneyX from accessing submissions that were sent through Challenge.gov. It is now requested that participants submit solutions as an attachment to KidneyX@hhs.gov with a subject line of “Redesign Dialysis Phase 1 submission -- [Individual/Team name].” Use separate emails for each solution if there are multiple.
Founded in 2018, KidneyX is a public-private partnership between the HHS and the American Society of Nephrology to support innovative strategies for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases. The Redesign Dialysis competition seeks to accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation dialysis products, offering up to 15 prizes of $75,000 each.
“With this first prize, KidneyX: Redesign Dialysis, we are looking for solutions that completely disrupt the way kidney failure is currently treated,” Ed Simcox, HHS chief technology officer, said in a press release. “We are asking innovators like engineers and scientists to propose and develop new technologies to redesign treatment for kidney failure. We look forward to seeing what the best and brightest envision for the future of kidney failure treatment in the first phase of Redesign Dialysis.”
Planned to open in 2019, phase two will encourage participants to continue to develop and demonstrate their solutions.
