The American Society of Transplant Surgeons has qualified Loyola Medicine to offer a two-year fellowship in liver and kidney transplant surgery, with the first fellowship to begin in July 2020.

According to the company’s press release, Loyola is one of 46 programs in the U.S., and two in the Chicago area, to offer an American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) fellowship in both kidney and liver transplantation.

"The ASTS fellowship accreditation is an indication of the high quality and high volumes of our kidney and liver transplant programs," Glyn R. Morgan, MD, MSc, FRCSC, FACS, director of Loyola's division of intra-abdominal transplant surgery, said. "It also is a validation of our commitment to excellence in training the next generation of transplant surgeons."

Loyola offers multidisciplinary, integrated care for kidney or liver disease and failure patients who may be considering a transplant. Loyola had performed 107 kidney transplants and 63 liver transplants, in 2018.
