CMS has approved a separate reimbursement code for the Ellipsys Vascular Access System, which is made by Avenu Medical Inc.

The device, which received FDA approval in June, was featured at this year’s Controversies in Dialysis Access (CiDA). A live simulcast of an endoAVF procedure using the device was performed by vascular surgeons Alexandros Mallios, MD, of L’Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, and Jeffrey Hull, MD, of Richmond Vascular Center during the conference.

“What a rewarding experience to receive a C-code right as we are presenting our technology at CiDA,” Ed Chang, co-founder and vice president of marketing at Avenu Medical Inc., said in a company press release. “We are grateful to CMS for its foresight in creating a fair and reasonable reimbursement scenario.”
