Renal dietitians can help patients make the right choices at Thanksgiving

As patients with kidney disease prepare for Thanksgiving, DaVita Kidney Care announced the release of the Today’s Kidney Diet: Holiday Gatherings cookbook, which is filled with kidney-friendly holiday recipes to help patients manage their kidney disease.

The cookbook features 14 recipes with high-quality protein and lower levels of sodium, potassium and phosphorus. The cookbook also provides ideas on holiday food swaps, tips to communicate kidney needs at parties and ideas for table decorating. It includes a reference guide with information to help patients choose foods appropriate for their stage of chronic kidney disease.

“We specifically curated this cookbook to help patients with kidney disease savor and enjoy the holidays, while following their treatment plans and self-managing their diets,” Sara Colman, RDN, CDE and manager for DaVita.com nutrition, said in a company press release. “Maintaining proper nutrition is a key component in our patients’ overall health-related quality of life.”
