ORLANDO, Fla. — At the Renal Physicians Association Annual Meeting, Jeffrey Giullian, MD, MBA, spoke about the Renal Physicians Association’s Incident Dialysis Alternative Payment Model.

The Incident Dialysis Alternative Payment Model is a proposal designed to be an alternative payment model (APM) for physicians and patients who are transitioning onto dialysis and for the first 6 months of dialysis. He said the goal of the APM is to pay physicians differently and enhance their flexibility in terms of providing both population-based health care and patient-centered health care that will ease in the transition to dialysis.

“The current system doesn’t allow us to reinvest the infrastructure that we need to take care of patients the absolute right way,” Giullian said.
