Renal Physician Association's ESRD patient safety award goes to Satellite Healthcare

Satellite Healthcare of Sunnyvale was named the recipient of the national 2015 ESRD Patient Safety Improvement Award from the Renal Physicians Association.

“We are fortunate at Satellite Healthcare to provide excellent patient care driven by compassionate employees who take continuous quality improvement very seriously,” said Brigitte Schiller, MD, chief medical officer for Satellite Healthcare, when she accepted the award at the RPA’s annual meeting here last week.

The RPA established the award to recognize nephrology practices or facilities that exhibit significant improvements in patient safety and also promulgate the goals of the RPA ESRD Patient Safety Initiative.

Satellite Healthcare of Sunnyvale is being recognized for achieving remarkable outcomes following the implementation of initiatives to decrease vascular infiltrations and at-home patient falls.

“Our Sunnyvale team is honored to receive this award in recognition of the ongoing efforts we make every day to help our patients lead better lives,” said clinical manager Maria Anne Viray. “We dedicate it to our patients, and staff, and most especially to Satellite Healthcare founder Dr. Norman Coplon, who passed away in January and continues to inspire us to provide exceptional care and service to our patients.”

Coplon founded Satellite Healthcare by opening the first freestanding dialysis facility in California. The organization now operates more than 70 facilities nationwide.
