MEI releases new edition of curriculum for dialysis technicians

The sixth edition of the Core Curriculum for the Dialysis Technician has been released.

A training resource for patient care technicians, the book is updated with new information on infection control, sections on ultrafiltration rates and organ stunning, a new emergency planning module, expanded content on professionalism, technician jobs and peritoneal dialysis, and new quiz questions so readers can test their knowledge.

“We are excited about the new Core Curriculum, which is intended to help prepare dialysis technicians and nurses to provide high quality care to improve patient outcomes,” Dori Schatell, MS, executive director of Medical Education Institute (MEI), said in a press release. “We are grateful for everyone who contributed, especially our team of authors and reviewers – nephrologists, nurses, social workers, technicians, educators and even the Centers for Disease Control – who worked together for a year to develop, edit and review the content.”

The MEI received industry support to create the new edition. Companies provided small, unrestricted educational grants to help produce photos and illustrations, obtain reference articles and pay honoraria to patient artists.
