The non-profit Medical Education Institute (MEI) has released Dialyze to LIVE, a free, inspirational booklet that showcases the possibilities for people who need dialysis. Dialyze to LIVE features six stories of people who have made home dialysis part of an active and rewarding lifestyle. The booklet is currently only available for download on the Home Dialysis Central website, but print copies may be offered in the future if there is demand, MEI said.
“I don’t feel like a ‘sick person’ anymore,” said Barry Gonzalez, who is featured in the booklet. “I’m proud to tell people that I do my own treatments.” He had been doing standard hemodialysis treatments in a clinic three times a week. To become more independent, he learned to do his treatments at home ,and he is back to work. -by Rebecca Zumoff
