DaVita HealthCare Partners will acquire Washington-based physician group the Everett Clinic. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Everett Clinic treats more than 315,000 patients at 20 facilities in Washington. The group employees 359 physicians and 145 advanced care practitioners, and a total of almost 2,200 staff.

The Everett Clinic said it is teaming with DaVita in order to implement a five-year expansion that will involve opening new locations in Snohomish and King County, Washington, and increase the number of health care providers from 500 to 1,000,  the Puget Sound Business Journal reported.

CEO Rick Cooper told the Journal that he expects the transaction to close in January. He said the clinic approached more than a dozen health care companies to explore merger possibilities, and chose DaVita partly because of its status as a large, Fortune 500 company and its commitment to high-quality health care.

"Our goals have always been both to transform care for our patients and to create a workplace that makes staff and providers feel excited about coming to work each day," said Rick Cooper, CEO of The Everett Clinic. "We believe we have found the partner that will help make our vision a reality." -by Rebecca Zumoff
