The American Association of Kidney Patients announced that its 43rd National Patient Meeting, which was set for Sept. 8th to 10th in St. Petersburg, Fla. is being rescheduled due to the approach of Hurricane Irma.
Gary Green, AAKP Executive Director, said “We have been closely monitoring the situation with Hurricane Irma over the last few days and its possible effect on the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. Our main concern, of course, is the safety of our meeting attendees, many of whom are patients. The worry is that they might be stuck in a major weather event and in need of dialysis or other medical attention, away from their usual health care team. Given the latest forecast of Irma’s path, and Governor Scott’s declaration of a statewide emergency in Florida, the leadership of AAKP has decided to postpone this week’s meeting and to reschedule it for early next year.”
AAKP hopes to announce the new dates within the next two weeks. AAKP staff is reaching out to all registered attendees. If you have any questions, contact AAKP at 1.800.749.2257.
