The Senate confirmed Marilyn Tavenner on Wednesday as administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services by a vote of 91-7. Tavenner is the first Senate-confirmed CMS administrator since 2006. She has served as Acting Administrator since Donald M. Berwick resigned from the post in December 2011. Before her time at CMS, Ms. Tavenner served as Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the state of Virginia under Governor Tim Kaine. Prior to entering public service, Ms. Tavenner held several leadership positions with the Hospital Corporation of America.
