Renal Physicians Association program chair Mitchell H. Rosner, MD, FACP, a professor of medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the University of Virginia’s School of Medicine, directed his conference program committee to develop an agenda that would look toward the future of nephrology, helping to arm attendees “with new tools and knowledge to address the challenges of new care systems, complex regulatory issues, and novel therapies, and at the same time enhance (their) business efficiencies and acumen,” Rosner wrote in the RPA’s program brochure.

“We are no doubt living in an era of great change in the health care arena” and the RPA program was designed to help attendees navigate through some of these changes. Rosner’s own interest parallels that focus of looking ahead: He serves as the fellowship director for the Nephrology division at the University of Virginia as well as Associate Director for the Medicine Residency program, where is has helped to developed a training program for the next generation of nephrologists. He also serves on the Executive Council of the American Society of Nephrology Training Program Directors, which aims to set training standards for nephrologists.

The three-day RPA program (brochure available for download here) includes multiple parallel workshops that have been designed for small group discussions in order to concentrate learning opportunities and encourage participation, Rosner said.
