DSI Renal hires bank to look at options
A report in The Wall Street Journal indicates that dialysis provider DSI Renal has hired investment bank Moelis & Co. to look for private equity investors interested in buying the company.
DSI Renal, based in Nashville, Tenn., owns and operates 91 dialysis clinics in 22 states, and is considered the sixth largest dialysis provider in the country.
Responding to an email inquiry from NN&I about the possible sale, a company spokesperson wrote that, "we can emphasize that it is a [private equity] only process, and if anything happens, there is no expectation of change to operations or to our corporate structure."
Frazier Healthcare and New Enterprise Associates reorganized the company in October 2011 with Bob Lefton and Craig Goguen, DSI's Executive Chairman and CEO, when it acquired 31 clinics from DaVita Kidney Care and the former DSI Renal Inc. through an Federal Trade Commission-mandated divestiture. Five months later, DSI acquired an additional 54 clinics from Fresenius through a separate FTC-mandated divestiture.
The map below shows the distribution of DSI dialysis clinics across the United States. It was taken from the July 2014 issue of NN&I that ranked the largest dialysis providers in the U.S.
