Dialysis provider DaVita Kidney Care has named Martin Schreiber, MD, as its new vice president of clinical affairs for home modalities.
"I believe that every patient deserves to be educated on their modality options and to have a choice in their dialysis care," said Schreiber. "While home dialysis may not be right for everyone, we recognize that many patients could benefit from more frequent dialysis and enjoy a higher quality of life with the option of a home modality."
Schreiber has nearly 40 years of experience in nephrology. He has worked primarily with The Cleveland Clinic and has held a number of key positions there, including chairman of the department of nephrology and hypertension and the director of home dialysis. He is also an active educator and international lecturer with ongoing editorial responsibilities with the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, American Journal of Kidney Disease and Peritoneal Dialysis International.
"Dr. Schreiber has been a leader in nephrology and patient-centric kidney care for over two decades," said DaVita Kidney Care's Chief Medical Officer Allen R. Nissenson, MD. "His experience, compassion, and understanding of the needs of patients and physicians make him a unique and outstanding additional to DaVita's physician leadership team."
Schreiber replaced John Moran, MD, FRACP, FACP, FACPE, who joined biopharmaceutical company ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. in March as its Chief Medical Officer.
