ASN Foundation for Kidney Research creates new fellowships, clinical scholars program

The American Society of Nephrology announced that it has created two new fellowships and a clinical scholars program as a part of its ASN Foundation for Kidney Research, established in 2012 to "to prevent and cure kidney diseases through research and innovation."

The Joseph A. Carlucci Research Fellowship
This fellowship honors Joseph A. Carlucci. Cofounder of American Renal Associates, Carlucci advocates for involving physicians at the local level to promote excellence in patient care.

The Donald E. Wesson Research Fellowship
This fellowship honors Donald E. Wesson, MD, FASN, vice dean of the Texas A&M College of Medicine and chief academic officer at Scott and White Healthcare. Wesson has served ASN as Secretary-Treasurer since 2007.

The William and Sandra Bennett Clinical Scholars Program
This new program for clinical scholars, funded by William M. Bennett, MD, FASN, and Sandra Bennett, will support the careers of promising clinical scholars in nephrology. Bennett is a past president of ASN and founding Editor-in-Chief of CJASN. Bennett has authored more than 450 peer-reviewed articles, and mentored hundreds of students, residents, and fellows.
