2015 Nephrology Match shows declining interest in nephrology

On Dec. 3, The National Resident Matching Program released preliminary results of the Specialties Matching Service Match for 2015. The American Society of Nephrology provided a brief analysis of the results.

"At first glance the results continue the recent trend for declining interest in nephrology careers, with 51% of programs (68 of 134) and 32% of positions (120 of 374) are going unfilled," according to ASN's analysis. "This represents a 6.3% and 23.7% increase in the number of unfilled programs and unfilled positions, respectively, in just one year. Of note, the number of programs withdrawn from this year’s Match doubled over 2014, from nine to 19."
