SAN ANTONIO — At this year’s Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology annual conference, the program’s keynote talks focused on developing both skills and confidence, and consciously leading infection prevention efforts.
The keynote speakers at the meeting were Simon T. Bailey, whose talk focused on proactively thriving to achieve personal and team goals; Lisa Sun, spoke about confidence and letting go of insecurities; and Valeria Grubb, outlined methods to positively influence people and lead up, down and across chains of command.
APIC also announced a new leadership program during the conference, which will enroll its first 10 participants in 2025 and offer opportunities for skills development and mentoring.
In this video, watch APIC president Tania N. Bubb, PhD, RN, CIC, FAPIC, senior director for infection control at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, talk about this year’s focus on leadership, enhancing the essential role infection preventionists play in health care.
“The day-to-day work of the [infection preventionist] takes leadership skills,” Bubb told Healio. “Whether they realize it or not, consciously or unconsciously, they are always exhibiting leadership skills.”
