SAN ANTONIO — We caught up with Connie Steed, MSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC, at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology annual meeting to talk about the potential benefits of universal nasal decolonization.
Steed, an infection prevention consultant and APIC’s immediate past president, gave a talk on the subject and received the 2024 Carole DeMille Award honoring 40 years of contributions as an infection preventionist.
Steed said nasal decolonization has become standard practice because of its potential to prevent Staphylococcus aureus infections in the hospital setting.
“When you do that, the risk of transmission goes down,” she said.
