The European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases is getting a new name.
The conference, known informally for years as ECCMID, is being renamed for the organization that runs it: the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).
Beginning this year, the conference will be called the ESCMID Global Congress, according to an announcement sent to journalists on Tuesday.
“The new name expresses the perspective and scope of the congress beyond Europe and also creates a stronger link with ESCMID,” a spokesperson for the meeting said.
This year’s meeting will be held in Barcelona, Spain, from April 27 to 30, using the new name. Organizers are expecting 16,000 attendees, making it the largest international meeting of clinical microbiologists and infectious disease specialists, according to ESCMID.
