May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month.
To prevent tick bites, the CDC recommends taking the following preventive measures:
- Use Environmental Protection Agency-registered insect repellants.
- Wear clothing treated with 0.5% permethrin, and retreat clothing annually.
- Shower after spending time outdoors.
- Check daily for ticks.
- Tumble clothes in a dryer on high heat for 10 minutes after spending time outdoors.

Nearly 500K Americans diagnosed with Lyme disease each year, analysis finds
According to an analysis published in Emerging Infectious Diseases, an average of nearly half a million Americans are estimated to have received a diagnosis of Lyme disease each year between 2010 and 2018. Read more.
