WASHINGTON — In this video from IDWeek, Carlos del Rio, MD, FIDSA, past chair of the HIV Medicine Association and professor of medicine and chair of the department of global health at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, discusses spending “a day on the Hill” meeting with Congressional representatives.
“As experts in the field, we are the best people to inform Congress,” del Rio said.
Taking advantage of IDWeek’s location, members of HIVMA and the Infectious Diseases Society of America spoke with representatives about ending the HIV and opioid epidemics, the threat of antibiotic resistance and supporting the infectious disease workforce.
“That’s where the sausage is made. That’s where the policy is made. And if we care about policies that impact our patients, we have to be involved in advocacy,” del Rio said.
