SEATTLE — Infectious Disease News spoke with Ravindra K. Gupta, MPH, PhD, an infectious diseases academic clinician at Cambridge University, about the newest ART-free HIV remission case.

The patient became the second person to be potentially cured of HIV after undergoing a stem cell transplant.

Gupta, who was part of the team that cared for the patient, explained that it was a “nice example” of interdisciplinary communication and cooperation across specialties.

“Infection and cancer are becoming more interlinked as we learn more about disease processes and the immune system,” Gupta said. “So, it’s quite exciting for clinicians.”
