ATLANTA — In this video, Infectious Disease News Editorial Board member Ellie J.C. Goldstein, MD, a clinical professor of medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, and director of the R.M. Alden Research Laboratory in Santa Monica, California, highlights notable presentations at this year’s ASM Microbe.
Goldstein mentions a presentation in the opening session by Manu Prakash, PhD, assistant professor of bioengineering at Stanford University, who is part of an effort to provide ultra-low-cost microscopes to children around the world so that they can explore their environments. Goldstein also highlighted presentations about the role of the microbiome in the gut-brain access, the promise of whole genome sequencing in tackling outbreaks, and how probiotics, prebiotics and symbiotics can be used for the treatment of various diseases and promote health.
