WASHINGTON, D.C. — Infectious Disease News Editorial Board member William Schaffner, MD, medical director of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, stresses the importance of influenza vaccination among health care workers and says that providers can increase vaccination rates among patients by being “a flu vaccine insister.”
“We should all get vaccinated,” Shaffner, who also is a professor of preventive medicine and infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, says. “Remember, it’s a patient safety issue. We should vaccinate everybody in the office.”
Disclosure: Schaffner reports serving on data safety monitoring boards for Merck and Pfizer and has consulted for Dynavax, Novavax, Sanofi-Pasteur, Seqirus, Shionogi and Sutrovax.
