Climate change is expected to increase the risk for the spread of numerous types of infectious diseases — including Lyme disease, Zika, diarrheal diseases and more — according to researchers.
“These are complex relationships — the book is never going to be closed on this,” Diarmid Campbell-Lendrum, DPhil, WHO team leader for climate change and health, told Infectious Disease News in a recent interview. “Yet we already know enough to act. We know that these diseases are highly sensitive to weather and climate conditions, and we know we are changing weather and climate conditions.”
