SEATTLE — Elaine J. Abrams, MD, professor of pediatrics and epidemiology at Columbia University Medical Center, discusses a session at CROI 2017 that highlighted issues in maternal health, mother-to-child transmission of HIV and treatment outcomes in children. Data were presented from several studies that evaluated therapies for early signs of cervical cancer in women with HIV; treatment approaches for new mothers; birth outcomes among infants born to mothers receiving ART; and point-of-care HIV testing and early treatment in newborns.
“Overall, we had a fantastic session with lots of new and important work,” Abrams says.
