SEATTLE — Infectious Disease News and Healio.com/ID will offer live coverage from the annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, or CROI, held Feb. 13-16.

The conference, sponsored by the International Antiviral Society-USA, aims to provide researchers with an opportunity to translate their clinical findings into progress against the HIV epidemic, according to the organization. It is an international meeting that brings together nearly 4,000 scientists, researchers, clinicians and students, with almost half of attendees traveling from countries outside the United States.

"We look forward to welcoming delegates from around the world to CROI to share the latest research results, important developments, and best scientific methods in the ongoing battle against HIV/AIDS and related infectious diseases,” Susan Buchbinder, MD, conference chair and director of Bridge HIV, an HIV prevention research unit at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, said in a press release. “CROI remains a global model of collaborative science and the premier international venue for bridging basic and clinical investigation to clinical practice in the field of HIV and related viruses.”

In addition to breaking news, the Infectious Disease News staff will conduct onsite video interviews with experts to get their perspectives on some of the presentations at the conference.

“We always look forward to CROI and know we’ll learn things that change how we approach our own research and patient care,” Infectious Disease News Chief Medical Editor Paul A. Volberding, MD, said. “This is the leading HIV scientific conference in the world and is packed with presentations by our leading scientists and is not distracted by competing commercial events. I know we’ll hear of exciting new HIV drugs and I’ve also learned that there will be exciting development in cure research presented at CROI this year. But I always expect to be surprised.

"Given the predicted weather in Boston, I’m glad CROI 2017 will be in Seattle!”
