The Infectious Diseases Society of America has named Christopher D. Busky, CAE, to be its next chief executive officer, according to a press release.

Busky’s service will be effective in July upon the retirement of Mark Leasure, who has been IDSA’s head of staff since 1998. Leasure is credited with expanding IDSA’s staff from five to more than 40 members, doubling membership and professional attendance at the annual IDWeek meeting, and tripling IDSA’s net assets, the release said. IDSA’s board of directors appointed Busky after an extensive search process.

“Chris brings to IDSA a wealth of experience in association management and has a track record for organizational leadership, strategic planning, revenue generation and public affairs experience,” Johan S. Bakken, MD, PhD, FIDSA, president of IDSA, said in the release. “We are fortunate to have found him.”

Busky has been involved in association management since 1989, most recently serving as executive vice president and chief operating office at Heart Rhythm Society in Washington, D.C. Busky previously held leadership roles at the Association Management Group, the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association, and the Manufactured Housing Institute. He is a long-time member of the American Society of Association Executives and served on the organization’s finance, human relations and business operations section council.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to lead IDSA and build upon its many successes,” Busky said in the release. “One of my top priorities will be to engage stakeholders to establish a clear value proposition for the ID professional.”
