VIDEO: CROI session focuses on TB treatment, XDR-TB transmission

BOSTON — Richard E. Chaisson, MD, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for TB Research, discusses highlights from a session on tuberculosis presented at CROI 2016.

Key findings from the session include data that showed empiric TB treatment in patients without a diagnosis was not superior to standard of care, and that a large portion of patients with extensively drug-resistant TB acquire the infection from person-to-person transmission rather than poor treatment, which had been the previous assumption.
