The global HPV testing and Pap test market is expected to reach $4.52 billion by 2020 with a compound annual growth rate of 6.6%, according to a research report by MarketsandMarkets.

There are several factors that have increased growth, including more government funding, an older population, a higher number of cervical cancer cases, and a greater awareness of cervical cancer screening programs. There are other factors, however, that have limited growth: HPV vaccination, the uncertain reimbursement scenario and changes in regulatory guidelines for cervical cancer screening.

The Pap test market segment is expected to account for the largest share in 2015, while the HPV testing market segment is expected to grow the fastest due to increased awareness of HPV screening and the introduction of the HPV primary test.

On the basis of application type, this market can be separated into two segments: Cervical cancer screening and vaginal cancer screening. The cervical cancer screening application segment is expected to account for the largest share of the Pap test market in 2015.

On the basis of end-users, this market can be separated into clinics, hospitals, laboratories, and physicians’ offices and clinics. The laboratories segment is expected to account for the largest share of this market, while the hospitals segment is expected to grow the fastest.
