ATLANTA — Infectious Disease News will provide live coverage from the CDC’s National HIV Prevention Conference.
This year’s theme, “Accelerating Progress: Prevent Infections. Strengthen Care. Reduce Disparities,” focuses on the interaction between prevention and care, linkage to care and reducing disparities in access and outcomes.
The conference, which runs through Dec. 9, is expected to draw 3,000 researchers, public health officials, community workers, clinicians and people living with HIV. Attendees will share their expertise to strengthen care, reduce treatment gaps and prevent new HIV infections. The 4-day conference features oral abstracts, poster presentations, plenary sessions, roundtable discussions and debates in HIV.

“The field of HIV medicine prevention has been transformed by recent developments with the use of ART," Infectious Disease News Chief Medical Editor Paul A. Volberding, MD, said. "We now know that treatment can prevent all transmission if used appropriately and that PrEP can prevent HIV acquisition. Given these findings and the recent WHO recommendation to treat all HIV-infected persons regardless of CD4 counts, a meeting to consider the new prevention landscape is imperative. Infectious Disease News looks forward to sharing news from this CDC conference.”
Infectious Disease News staff will provide coverage of recent data and the latest trends in HIV, as well as onsite video interviews with experts to gain their perspectives on some of the presentations. Readers also can expect newswires featuring the conference’s top headlines.
