SAN DIEGO — Infectious Disease News and Healio.com will offer live coverage from the American Society for Microbiology’s 2015 Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, or ICAAC, starting Thursday, Sept. 17.

This year ICAAC will join with the International Society of Chemotherapy (ISC)’s International Congress of Chemotherapy and Infection (ICC) to present the latest data from clinical trials and highlight recent progress in drug development and novel treatment strategies. The meeting will feature 4 days of sessions and presentations on current trends in infectious disease, including antimicrobial resistance and stewardship; community-associated infections; travel medicine; microbial pathogenesis; epidemiology; pharmacology; quality of care; vaccines and immunology; HIV/AIDS; and nosocomial infections.

“Over the years, ICAAC has been a truly important meeting for infectious diseases,” Infectious Disease News Chief Medical Editor Paul A. Volberding, MD, said.As part of the American Society for Microbiology [ASM], it has been particularly strong in the areas of new antibiotic development and resistance testing and is a very international meeting with extensive participation from Europe, the Americas and Asia.”

Next year ICAAC will be combined with the annual ASM meeting in a conference called “ASM Microbe 2016,” Volberding said.

“So this is the last year for ICAAC. It’s sure to be a good meeting with the extra energy of the end of one era and a new beginning,” he said.

For ICAAC 2015, the Infectious Disease News staff will provide onsite video interviews with experts to gain their perspectives on some of the presentations. Readers also can expect newswires featuring the conference’s top headlines.

The conference runs Sept. 17-21. Visit Healio.com/ID to read the latest news.
