Infectious Disease News Chief Medical Editor Paul A. Volberding, MD, discusses the major themes of this year's International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia.

The conference was overshadowed by the loss of friends and colleagues who were aboard the Malaysia Airlines flight that was shot down over Ukrainian territory on July 17. Speakers at the event paid tribute to those who were killed and called for a recommittment in the fight against the HIV epidemic.
