Approximately 1.8 million pounds of ground beef products produced by Wolverine Packing Co. in Detroit are being recalled due to possible contamination with Escherichia coli O157:H7, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The products were produced between March 31 and April 18. The recalled products will bear the establishment number “EST.2574B” and will have a date code in the format, “Packing Nos: MM DD 14.” The products were shipped to distributors nationwide.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) was notified of the E. coli O157:H7 illnesses on May 8. In conjunction with the CDC, FSIS traced the illnesses back to these ground beef products. The investigations have identified 11 patients in four states. Illness-onset dates range from April 22 to May 2.
