BOSTON — Infectious Disease News and Healio.com/ID will offer live coverage from the 2014 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, or CROI.

The conference, held March 3-6 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, is slated to host more than 4,000 attendees and feature experts from around the globe speaking on research related to HIV; opportunistic and other infections associated with HIV; organ-system complications of HIV; other retroviruses, including hepatitis B and C viruses; tuberculosis; and their treatments.

New for this year, the CROI Foundation designated the International Antiviral Society–USA (IAS–USA) to serve as the secretariat for the logistical planning and organization of CROI 2014. The IAS–USA, a not-for-profit professional education organization established in 1992, was created to fill a major void in objective, practical and cutting-edge practitioner education in the field of HIV, with an expanded focus that includes viral hepatitis and other complications of HIV.

Now that leadership has been extended to HCV infection as well, a rapidly moving research effort directly taking off from our progress in HIV,” Paul A. Volberding, MD, Infectious Disease News Chief Medical Editor and Chair of the IAS-USA Board of Directors, said. “Now with the role of IAS-USA in managing CROI, there will be an enhanced ability to educate clinicians based on advances first reported at the annual conference.”

In addition to breaking news, the Infectious Disease News staff will offer onsite video interviews with experts on opportunistic infections to get their perspectives on some of the presentations at the conference.
