China: Four more H7N9 cases
Authorities from the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China reported four more cases of infection with influenza A(H7N9) virus, according to WHO. All of the patients are in critical condition.
These latest illnesses bring the total number of confirmed H7N9 cases to 185. Fifty-two people with the infection have died.
The most recent cases include a 35-year-old man from Shanghai who had been exposed to poultry. He became ill Jan. 1 and was admitted to the hospital Jan. 12. A 41-year-old man from Hangzhou City in Zhejiang province became ill Jan. 5 and was hospitalized Jan. 9. A 48-year-old man from Foshan City in Guangdong province became ill Jan. 2 and was hospitalized Jan. 12. On Jan. 1, a 55-year-old man from Dongguan City in Guangdong province who was exposed to poultry became ill. He was hospitalized Jan. 9.
Currently, WHO does not recommend any travel or trade restrictions as a result of the outbreak.
