WHO has been notified of a laboratory-confirmed case of influenza A(H7N9) in China, the first new case since August, according to a press release.

A man aged 35 years from Zhejiang province was admitted to a hospital on Oct. 8 and is listed in critical condition. Also, one previously laboratory-confirmed case from Hebei province has died.

To date, there are 136 laboratory-confirmed human cases of influenza A(H7N9), including 45 deaths. Three patients are currently hospitalized and 88 have been discharged. However, there is still no evidence of sustainable human-to-human transmission.

According to the release, the Chinese government is continuing its strict monitoring, prevention and control measures.

WHO is not advising of any special screening in relation to this event or any travel or trade restrictions.
