BRUSSELS — Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 16, Infectious Disease News and Healio.com/ID will offer live coverage from the 14th Annual European AIDS Conference, organized by the European AIDS Clinical Society, or EACS.
The conference will feature 4 days of breakout sessions and presentations from keynote speakers, including Michel D. Kazatchkine, MD, the UN Secretary General’s special envoy on HIV/AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
According to EACS, more than 800 abstracts from 70 countries have been submitted for presentation at the conference.
"The convergence of knowledge of HIV science and treatment has reduced regional differences in medical care, and increasingly we expect communications will employ Internet-based applications," Infectious Disease News Chief Medical Editor Paul A. Volberding, MD, said. "Still, affirming our communities and networking in actual meetings remains of great value, and travel costs make national or regional meetings a natural approach. The European HIV effort is, of course, a substantial one, and we look forward to hearing the latest research findings at the 2013 European AIDS Clinical Society conference in Brussels. As always, we expect updates from some of the major cohort studies in Europe and data from intervention trials. It will be fascinating to compare this information with that just recently presented at ID Week featuring research in North America."

In addition to breaking news, the Infectious Disease News staff will offer onsite video interviews with experts on HIV/AIDS to get their perspectives on some of the presentations at the conference. Readers can also expect newswires featuring the conference's top headlines.
The conference is from Oct. 16 to 19. Visit Healio.com/ID throughout the week to read the latest news.
