Cyclospora multistate outbreak affects more than 200 patients

FDA, CDC and state health departments are investigating the cause of a multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis that has hospitalized at least eight people.

The first two cases of cyclosporiasis were reported in June in two Iowa residents with no history of international travel. CDC has been notified of more than 200 confirmed cases in four states: Nebraska, Iowa, Texas and Wisconsin. Illinois also has reported one possible case.

The source of the outbreak has not been identified, and it is not known whether all of the cases in the four states are part of the same outbreak, according to the CDC. There have been no common social events identified between the case patients.

Health officials are continuing to monitor the situation.
