Healio.com will offer live coverage from Digestive Disease Week beginning Sunday.

The conference, held May 3 to May 6, will feature experts speaking on critical topics on gastroenterology and hepatology, including hepatitis C, colorectal cancer, the gut microbiome and more.

Rapidly advancing treatments for HCV will be among the prime topics discussed, according to Gary L. Davis, MD, FACP, director of general and transplant hepatology at Baylor Healthcare System and secretary of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. Digestive Disease Week (DDW) will have multiple sessions dedicated to introducing research related to the new and approved regimens.

“The session that is probably going to be of the most interest to attendees … is the Treatment of HCV: Interferon-Free at Last,” Davis said on the DDW website. “Some of these drugs have just been approved and the others should be approved this year or early next year. So this is really hot.”

Other program highlights include the technology session, in which innovative research and education will be shared to help physicians diagnose and manage gastrointestinal disorders; sessions on colorectal cancer that tie in with National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month; and abstracts and presentations covering the microbiome, including fecal microbiota transplantation and biotherapy.

Besides breaking news, Healio.com will offer onsite video interviews from presenters. Readers also can subscribe to newswires featuring the conference’s top headlines. Visit Healio throughout the conference to read the latest news.
