IASLC: All physicians should screen patients with cancer for tobacco use
BARCELONA — The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, or IASLC, today issued a declaration at its World Conference on Lung Cancer advising all physicians to screen their patients with cancer for tobacco use and recommend tobacco cessation.
USPSTF recommends preventive drugs for women at high breast cancer risk
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force today recommended that clinicians offer breast cancer risk-reducing medications such as tamoxifen, raloxifene and aromatase inhibitors to asymptomatic women aged 35 years and older who are at elevated risk for developing the disease and low risk for adverse effects from the treatments.

FDA’s ‘The Real Cost’ campaign successful in preventing youth smoking
From 2014 to 2016, the FDA’s “The Real Cost” media campaign aimed at children and adolescents has prevented as many as 587,000 youths nationwide from initiating smoking, according to data published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
USPSTF: Screen women with increased risk for BRCA1, BRCA2 mutations
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that primary care physicians assess women with a familial risk assessment tool if they have family history of breast, ovarian, tubal or peritoneal cancer, or if they have an ancestry associated with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations.
FDA proposes adding new health warnings, images to cigarette packaging
The FDA has issued a proposed rule that would require cigarette packaging and advertisements to include new health warnings with photo-realistic images about the lesser-known, but serious, health risks of cigarette smoking, according to an agency press release.
