ASH recognizes Judith Kleinerman, MD, with Exemplary Service Award
ASH will honor Judith Kleinerman, MD, with the 2024 ASH Exemplary Service Award during the ASH Annual Meeting.
Established in 1998, the award recognizes experts with outstanding service that has significantly advanced the interests of the society, according to a press release.

Kleinerman, who previously practiced at a private community practice, Steward Medical Group Specialists in Massachusetts, and now retired, has been an ASH member for more than 30 years. She first became involved in ASH through her role as a member of the Committee on Practice, where she contributed critical insights on hematology-associated policy issues and physician needs, according to the release.
Kleinerman continued to serve as an advocate on Capital Hill after her term on the committee ended by telling the stories of her own patients to support ASH’s policy priorities. She also served on the ASH Choosing Wisely Task Force where she and colleagues developed 15 evidence-based recommendations to assist conversations between physicians and patients about the need for and potential harm of tests and procedures, according to the release.
“I am extremely honored and thankful for this award. The volunteer work I have done at ASH is a source of great pride,” Kleinerman said in the release. “I see the impact on clinical practice and educational programs, and through the allocation of funds from the ASH Foundation.”
“It has been a joy and privilege to work with Dr. Kleinerman, and we are delighted to honor her legacy here at ASH,” Mohandas Narla, DSc, ASH president and distinguished researcher at New York Blood Center Enterprises, said in the release. “Through her invaluable expertise, passionate advocacy, and dedication to ASH’s mission, she has made a lasting impact at the society.”
Kleinerman currently lends her expertise to the ASH CME Accreditation Committee and the ASH Foundation Committee in addition to remaining active in the ASH Clinicians in Practice program and the ASH Grassroots Network, according to the release.
