A telephone-based weight loss intervention significantly increased moderate or vigorous physical activity in patients with breast cancer with overweight/obesity, according to a breast cancer weight loss trial presented at ESMO Congress.

In the trial update presented by Jennifer Ligibel, MD, associate professor at Harvard Medical School and director of the Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, patients randomly assigned to the weight loss intervention increased their activity, and researchers found an association between increased moderate or vigorous physical activity and weight loss, Ligibel told Healio in a video interview.

“Next steps, we will continue to follow these women over time. We are hoping to see whether this weight loss intervention with the increased exercise leads to better breast cancer outcomes,” Ligibel said.
