VIDEO: Palliative care model increases quality of life for patients with leukemia
In this video, Christine McMahon, MD, discusses the results of a randomized trial of a care model for patients with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome, presented at ASCO Annual Meeting.
McMahon, an assistant professor at University of Colorado School of Medicine, highlighted the study, which produced results indicating higher quality of life for patients receiving palliative care.
“This study showed that palliative care significantly improved rates and timing of discussion and documentation of end-of-life care preferences. And it also reduced hospitalizations and improved quality of life in patients with AML and MDS receiving nonintensive therapy,” McMahon said.
