Dana-Farber Cancer Institute names surgeon-in-chief

Chandrajit P. Raut, MD, MSc, has been appointed surgeon-in-chief at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Raut will be responsible for programs and staff in the oncology surgical department through its collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH).
Raut also will serve as surgery director at Dana-Farber’s Center for Sarcoma and Bone Oncology; chief of the division of surgical oncology and distinguished chair for cancer care in the department of surgery at BWH; and professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School.

His leadership and experience embodies our vision and will be valuable as we continue to partner in providing expert care for the patients who depend on us," Laurie H. Glimcher, MD, president and CEO of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, said in a press release.
Raut specializes in the care of patients with soft tissue sarcoma. His research has included efforts to develop innovative chemotherapy-eluting films to reduce surgical bed tumor local recurrence rates. He also has led or participated in several phase 2 and phase 3 trials to evaluate sarcoma therapies.
He previously served as program director of the Mass General Brigham/Dana-Farber Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship program at Harvard Medical School. He is co-chair of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Surgery Committee.
