NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Alexander Kutikov, MD, FACS, received Kidney Cancer Association’s Andrew C. Novick Award.
The award — presented at International Kidney Cancer Symposium: North America — recognizes health care professionals who made significant contributions in urology and medical oncology over the course of their careers for the treatment of kidney cancer.
Kutikov is chair of the department of urology and Roberta R. Scheller chair in urologic oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center. His specialties included kidney, bladder, penile, prostate, testicular and ureteral cancers, as well as adrenal tumors.
His treatment focus areas include minimally invasive, robotic and laparoscopic surgeries, as well as traditional open surgery.
“I am thrilled to accept this award and am honored to be among its long list of prestigious recipients — clinicians who have, and who are still leading the way to new and innovative approaches in caring for [patients with kidney cancer],” Kutikov said in a Fox Chase Cancer Center-issued press release.
Novick — a renowned kidney surgeon who died in 2008 — served as chair of Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute. Under his leadership, the institute became one of the most specialized urology programs in the world. He also founded the Urologic Society for Transplantation and Renal Surgery.
“This award highlights the incredible work being done by thought leaders in the field,” Gretchen E. Vaughan, Kidney Cancer Association’s president and CEO, said in the release. “We are excited to recognize the outstanding contributions made by urologists who continue Dr. Novick’s legacy in transforming the way we diagnose and treat kidney cancer, and we’re honored to recognize Dr. Kutikov’s outstanding work.”
