CHICAGO — In this Healio video exclusive, Charu Gupta, MD, discusses the significance of highlighting research on gender equity in medicine at the Women in Medicine Summit.

Gupta, cardiologist and advanced heart failure specialist at North Shore University Health System, Evanston, Illinois, and awards chair for the #IStandWithHer awards ceremony, said it is important to recognize individuals and their contributions in this space.

“I am excited to share the wonderful work by so many people around us that often does not get recognized,” she said. “As women, we sometimes minimize ourselves, take up less space and brush off compliments. We don’t get a chance to take in the true meaning of what we have accomplished. These awards give us an opportunity to tell women that they are seen and heard, and to tell our male allies that they are valued. [By doing this], the next generation can look back and know that they can do this too and to keep paying it forward.”
